"Size inclusive" gets used a lot in the bridal industry, and I don't think it always gets explained well.
Brides hear the phrase and picture a sales floor with an identical number of gowns in every size, ready to try on side by side.
I want to walk through what the term actually means, because I think a clearer picture helps every bride walk into her appointment feeling confident about what to expect.
What does "size inclusive" actually mean in bridal?
Size inclusive doesn't mean an equal count of gowns in every size on the sales floor. It means a boutique has made a genuine, sustained investment in carrying a real range of sizes, so a bride outside the sample size norm still has beautiful, well made options to try on and a team who knows how to fit and style her.
No single boutique, no matter how committed, will ever have every silhouette in every size ready to try on at every moment.
What size inclusive should promise is that a bride is met with the same expertise, care, and options as any other bride, and that the store has done real work to make that possible.
Does size inclusive mean a boutique carries equal numbers of every size?
No. Bridal samples are expensive and floor space is finite, so most boutiques will always carry more mid range samples simply because that's where the highest volume of brides fall. A boutique that has actively built out its range on both ends, petite and plus, and keeps investing in that range over time, is doing something meaningful even when the raw numbers aren't perfectly even. At J. Major's, we carry samples through size 28 in store and special order through size 32, and we treat that range as core to who we are.
How can I make the most of my bridal appointment?
A little planning goes a long way. Share your inspiration photos before you book so your stylist can tell you right away what's genuinely in reach. Ask specifically what's currently available in your size for the silhouette you love, since inventory shifts throughout the year. And hold your vision with a little flexibility. Fabric and cut often look different in person than in a photo, and a stylist who knows the collection can often point you toward something even better suited to you.
What should I do if I have a very specific dress in mind?
Reach out before you book and describe exactly what you're envisioning. A good stylist will tell you right away whether that look is something the store carries, which saves you a trip and lets your appointment time go entirely toward dresses that are genuinely in reach.
